Clearing the Print Queue
When to Do This:
- The printer is not responding
- Print jobs are stuck or won’t cancel
- You see an error like “Document waiting” or “Printing error”
For Windows 10/11
Method 1: Using the Control Panel
- Open Control Panel, Press windows key or Start menu and search fo
- Click “View Devices and Printers” > “Printers & Scanners”
- Select the Printer you’re using and click on Print Queue
- Click on the 3 dots on the top-right or ellipses and select action
Method 2: Using Services (Required IT Login)
- Open Services:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Stop the Print Spooler:
- Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Stop.
- Clear the Print Queue:
- Open File Explorer and go to:
- C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
- Delete all files in this folder (you may need admin rights).
- Restart the Print Spooler:
- Go back to the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.
- Try Printing Again
Pro Tips
- Restart your printer after clearing the queue
- Update printer drivers from the manufacturer’s website
- Check for paper jams or low ink if issues persist
- Use the printer’s built-in menu to cancel jobs if available
