Second Authentication Method
Why second authentication method?
This is also known as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) or two-factor authentication (2FA), and it’s an extra layer of security added to your account. The following are the major benefits of this service.
- Prevents password breaches. The extra layer helps when your password is compromised, as it will require a second factor to access it.
- Prevent phishing attacks. With increased cases of phishing where users are tricked into revealing their password, having an extra layer of protection help minimize such scenario of an attacker gaining access to your account.passwordsscenarios
- Compliance requirement. The current trend for most organizations is tightening security. This is achieved by ensuring all user accounts are secure and MFA help with that course.
- Allow for Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR). This is a service IT is planning to roll out soon and to ensure that the user resetting the password is who they claim to be, they need to have MFA setup to authenticate themselves.
How to add second authentication method
Most of Atira users have one authentication method already set up. If you already have two authentications, thank you so much for ensuring maximum security for your account.
To add a second authentication method, use this link https://myaccount.microsoft.com/ to access your account on the browser. Select Security info to add the second authentication.
The allowed methods of authentication are.
- Authenticator app
- Mobile number (text or call)
Click add sign-in method to add another authentication. Please select either Authenticator app or Phone only from the dropdown menu.
You also access your account by going to the office home page using www.office.com. From the home page click on your name initial on the top right of the home page and click on view account.
Authentication Method One – Phone.
Click on Phone from the dropdown menu and click add. Enter the phone number and select either to receive a text or a call.
Authentication Method Two - Authenticator App
This is a mobile phone app which you can download from Google Play sore or the App store.
Click on add sign-in method and select authenticator app and click add. Click next on the next two screens.
On your phone open the Authenticator app, click on the plus sign (+) on the top part of the screen. Then click on the work or school account. The scan the QR code.
Open the authenticator app and enter the 6-digit number from the app.
In case you have one authentication method set up and you have forgotten your password please email IT (techsupport@atira.ca) to help with password reset. Once IT has reset your password login to My Account on the browser using this link https://myaccount.microsoft.com/.
